On the Way to Angeles

It may be hard to see but to the right of the red stop light is a digital number 2; we thought this very odd, it shows how many seconds before the light turns green. Boy would that cause a lot of accidents in the states!

We were blown away by the beautiful, WIDE highway leading to Angeles and Clark Air Force base. You could go 100 kilometers on it!! There was actually a minimum you were suppose to go which explains the absence of trykes and Jeepneys, besides the fact that it is a toll road. It was a wonderful drive--it was so uncluttered which we just don't have around where we live--it is wall to wall traffic any time of the day or night.

This is a shot off to the right as we go speeding down the highway, I was actually surprised it took so well.

SIDE NOTE: This little day trip was out of our mission but we had permission from President Jensen to follow them down to the quilt shops Sister Jensen had visited. We had an enjoyable day, we got several things at the two quilt shops which were hand appliqued AND hand quilted after they having been pieced. It is beautiful work for a very reasonable price. I can't wait to get home and display them. After we visited the two shops Pres. Jensen went on to Manila and we (Thomsen's and us) thought we were on our way back to Baguio Mission territory BUT we took the wrong road. Wonderful news!
Shortly after we got on the road, Pres. Jensen calls us and says you are on the wrong road--you will have to travel about 10 kilometers to get to a place where you can turn around. My husband thinks he is above the rules here for some strange reason. (I think that it might stem from he fact that no Filipino follows driving rules here!) We had just passed the toll booth so he decides he can just back up and they will let him go in the opposite direction of the traffic to get on the right toll road! Oh, he does back up about a large city block distance and by the time we get back to the toll booth, the security guard (which are everywhere here) and the police are at the toll booth and my wonderfully tactful husband just explains he is on the wrong road and to just let him retrace his direction and get on the right road.
They very firmly tell him he cannot do that. {He should have known better--even the tiniest thing out of the "Box" sort of speak is not doable in this country} and he is told he has to travel to the next toll booth and turn around. SOOOO--he puts the car in drive and does exactly what Pres. Jensen told him he needed to do to get back on the right road! Oh the joy just keeps on giving! He he.
I refer to this as another one of those "journaling experiences"!! Actually I have quite a few of those!
