Various Local Shots of Sagada

This tree just caught our attention, it looks like a huge fan spread out.

This is a much more modern Post Office than the one in Mangaldan.

This is a school next to the Bontoc Museum, a class is held outside -- good choice it was a very warm day.

It seems so quaint to see women carrying things on their heads but here it is common here.

Hanging Coffins of Sagada

If you look really close in the middle of the picture toward the horizontal line--those are hanging coffins. It's a big tourist attraction, people come from all over the world to hike the caves. We, however, did not choose to see them that close, it was a very long, steep hike and we are not youngsters any more.

This is as close as we could get. If you see the little white dot above the coffin right in the middle of the picture, that is a skull. We have no idea the story behind it--but found it interesting.

This is a shot of Pres. Jensen in the foreground and Rick coming close behind on the trail down to the coffins. We smart women stayed up top.

A great glimpse through the foliage surrounded the coffins. These were just a few, if you hiked into the caves there were many and I am sure a guide would have told a very intriguing story. We shall never know.

Rice--Before

This is what the rice looks like before the hulls are taken off, they have to let it dry first and the only place is on the road.

More of our Trip

We saw these ladies walking back up the hill after doing their shopping. This is a common sight all over the Philippines. The Filipinos carry all sorts of things on their heads and don't seem to have any trouble keeping them there. They make it look so simple. Amazing

These ladies didn't mind at all having their picture taken. I have been looking for an opportunity to capture this part of their culture. Finally got it!

They were very pleased to have me take their picture. I am sure they couldn't figure out what the big deal was and why I would want a picture of an every day event.

Our Hotel in Sagada

This is the lobby of our hotel. It was nice and clean and very inexpensive.

This is a huge flowering plant -- wait till you see what I found under it.

The permanent resident of the hotel--she was laying eggs. It was in the shade, cool and out of the way. Smart chicken.

This was a place where the visitors could sit in the "kubos" and just relax. We were too busy trying to cover everything we could in a short amount of time.

Vegetation around Banaue

Banana trees grow everywhere, along roads, back in the dense vegetation. We see people walking down the road with a big stock of bananas they just picked from the side of the road.

Beautiful flowers --we don't know the names of most of them.

Bontoc Museum in Sagada

These were Ifugao huts which are part of the Bontoc Museum held displays of the culture.

I just love the beautiful plants that grow here. Most of the vegetation I have never seen before.
